Nike Celebrates 20 Years of the Doernbecher Freestyle Collection
Nike marks a major milestone with the 20th anniversary of the Doernbecher Freestyle Collection, a special initiative that empowers young patients at the OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital by giving them the opportunity to design their own Nike footwear and apparel. Since its inception in 2004, the Doernbecher Freestyle program has raised over $33 million, with proceeds going towards funding medical treatment and research at the hospital.
This year’s collection, celebrating two decades of creativity and resilience, features six young patient designers who have worked with Nike’s design team to bring their personal stories and visions to life through unique sneaker and apparel designs. Each piece is a reflection of the designers’ personal journeys, filled with symbols of strength, perseverance, and individuality. The collection features iconic Nike silhouettes reimagined with vibrant colours, bold graphics, and inspiring details that represent the kids’ experiences.
Nike’s collaboration with Doernbecher not only brings fresh, creative designs to the sneaker world but also underscores the importance of community and giving back. The 20th-anniversary collection continues the tradition of using design as a means of empowerment and storytelling, offering both an inspiring message and highly collectible pieces for sneaker enthusiasts and philanthropists alike.
